The survival of a horse is directly connected to the synchronicity of heart rhythms. Heart rhythms are synced within a herd and when one horse's heart rhythm changes due to a perceived threat, it sends an immediate ripple effect to the herd, completely bypassing the brain because there is no time to process when a lion is hunting you.
This is why horses communicate with us primarily through heart vibration and energetic frequencies, which provides us the opportunities to understand and practice awareness from that level of our being.
Simply being in the presence of such a large-hearted being has shown to have a biochemical impact on our human nervous system, in particularly helping to support regulation and healthy functioning of the vagus nerve.
Research done by Anne Baldwin, PhD and Ellen Gehrke, PhD. with the support of the HeartMath Institute shows the impact that only horses can have on our Very Low Frequency (VLF) Rhythms. VLF Rhythms are generated by the heart's intrinsic nervous system that plays a critical role in our health and wellness. It's the "heart-brain". Horses have a naturally high VLF, in other words they have a giant heart-brain and that has significant impacts on all of our nervous systems (and other biological systems) through the regulation and coherence of our heart (a big part of our Autonomic Nervous System). Additional research has been done showing the co-regulatory potential between the heart of the horse and the heart of the human. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is due to the complimentary relationship of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. If one or the other is more dominant (due to such things as chronic stress, traumatic stress, physical illness, mental illness, and more) there is a reduction in HRV and a significant impact on our health.
Because much of our dis-ease can be connected to the functioning of our autonomic nervous system and it's two divisions of sympathetic and parasympathetic, it is clear to see how the regulatory impact the heart of a horse has on the heart of a human can significantly improve our health and wellness. And only when we experience physical regulation can we experience emotional and mental regulation.
