While many view horses to be a source of transportation, entertainment, tools for work or sport, and/or a source of income, they are so much more powerful than that. Even those who appreciate their "horsenalities" and magical mystic fall short of truly understanding the powerful gifts these beings have to offer the human species.
As the fields of Equine Therapy and Equine Facilitated Learning begin to gain traction, more and more humans are stepping into pastures and arenas and I imagine the Horse Nation taking a collective sigh and saying "it's about time you listen to us!"
Horses have a unique, and often direct, way of showing us and teaching us about many aspects of our social-emotional wellbeing. Additionally, they have a profound impact on our physical wellbeing. Simply being in the presence of a horse can help to heal our body!

Our modern definition of the term "medicine" is extremely limited. Just do an image search for "medicine" and most of the results are similar to this image...pills...and lots of them. If we journey beyond the modern, western medical realm we will find a deeper, more comprehensive meaning to the term. In alignment with indigenous cultures around the world, my definition and meaning of "medicine" is:
Something that supports healing and maintenance of a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
Within this understanding, we can understand the concept of "Horse Medicine" and embrace the philosophy that we each have our own unique Medicine to offer to the world. Follow this blog for continued information for inspiration regarding the healing benefits of Horses!
